Student Assistance and Family Empowerment (SAFE)

Lake Nona High School Safe Coordinator: Tammy Whitfield [email protected]

The Student Assistance and Family Empowerment Program, SAFE, offers direct help and resources for students and families. SAFE also offers students a confidential and safe place to go if students need someone to talk to or need help resolving their problems. The SAFE office located in room 571-C, also deals with school crisis and implements programs at Lake Nona High School that help to promote non-violent, healthy and drug-free lifestyles.

As humans we must first have our basic needs met before we are able to focus on anything else. If a student is hungry or lacks the basic self-care items he or she needs, attending to and retaining information in the classroom is unlikely to be high on his/her list of priorities. With this in mind, the Lake Nona High School SAFE program has created The Lion’s Share, a school-based pantry containing new and very gently used clothing, school supplies, ready-to-eat snack foods and drink items, as well as personal hygiene products for our students and families in need. Our goal in opening this pantry is not only to remove a potential barrier to education for our students but also to ensure that as a community here at LNHS, we are caring well for each other. Referring staff and SAFE coordinator will ensure that all students accessing the pantry are able to do so in a confidential and respectful manner.

As we get started we need your help! We are in need of donations of pantry items as well as volunteers to assist in organizing and stocking the pantry. If you or your family would like to access the pantry or if you have items that you would like to donate please contact SAFE Coordinator, Tammy Whitfield, at (407) 956-8320 or email.

Thank you for participation and support of our students and families!
